My Small World

If you read my original blog “From Military Veteran to Serving Veterans”, you will know that while on pre-deployment between Texas and Kuwait, I was slowly losing my mind and was returned to the United States while my unit went to Iraq.   This all happened in 2009, one of the worst years of my life. This is a post of connecting and reconnecting, as well as new beginnings on the road to recovery.   Please take the next several minutes to read, in hopes that if you too are struggling, you will find solace and comfort in knowing that it IS possible for life to take a turn towards a positive light. Some general background on the last twelve months of my life.   As of this point last year, I was engaged to a man I considered my rock, my best friend.   I was engaged (as far as I knew) to a man who promised the next however many years we were granted, yet he struggled to hold true for me as I was working on getting through a very severe, several months long depression. ...
The year 2018 has not certainly been the best.   In other ways it has been a positive year, it just took me the last eight months and a stay in the Veterans Hospital to come to the conclusion that my life does not in fact, suck.   I have a great life.   Depression and anxiety suck.   They brought me down and I’ve had events trigger a serious downward spiral.   After my failed deployment, I was stuck at Fort Bliss for several months while various providers tried to decide my issue.   I tell you this because at one point one of my sister’s good friends called me while I was there.   I have blocked out most of that time, however, I do recall her saying, “Sandi, tell me, what’s wrong? What’s happened?”   At another point in our conversation she told me I’m a strong woman and I’ll get through this.   She was right.   I did.   There are times I feel like a train wreck waiting to happen, but I seem to pull out stronger than before. ...
